News > Promens System Cuts Packaging Waste On Fish Counters
A global fish processor with a subsidiary in the UK, has selected the Promens Seafood Packaging System for all their 3kg bulk ‘counter’ fish packs produced at their UK site.
Talks between the two companies started in January 2009, with two main aims, to reduce packaging waste and improve operational efficiencies.
Both of these aims have been achieved, with a 33% increase in outputs and labour reduction, by using Promens’ twin headed, fast MAP automatic bulk tray sealer. This replaces two single headed existing lines. By using Promens system, packaging waste has been reduced by 50% at the retailer end user.
Jeremy Wilson, Promens Sales Director said, ‘Promens’ system is fully established with UK and Continental fish processors and the benefits of the system were clear to the customer, however we needed to trial the system to ensure that it met the customers quality and operational requirements as well as that of the market leading retailer’.
‘Promens loaned the processor a trial machine to pack a full day’s production for the retailer. The multi-store trial worked well, with positive comments from the people that know most about the products, the counter staff at the retailer! This is especially good news for us coming after other successes earlier in the year’.
‘The Promens system really is a unique offer, a pre-formed bulk tray, which can be used for any protein, not just Seafood’, said Wilson. ‘Promens logistics trays are lightweight but incredibly strong, can be used with ice or Modified Atmosphere and go straight to pallet, offering pre-pack storage, production, logistics and waste reduction benefits’.
‘The system is available to all sizes of user, with a range of trays and sealing machines suited to small or large processors’, said Wilson.
